Workshop History International relations

Diplomatic archives workshop

The Centre des Archives Diplomatiques at La Courneuve was opened to the public in 2009 and possesses an exceptional wealth of archival material collected by the French foreign ministry from the 15th century to the present day. Access is free of charge and open to anyone regardless of academic status.

This study day is designed for EHESS master’s students, but is open to master’s and PhD students from any higher education establishment). Its purpose is to present the new La Courneuve archive centre and show that the value of its collections and the 450,000-volume foreign ministry library goes beyond diplomatic history and that they can be used for research in economic and social history, anthropology (views of the world), elite prosopography, institutional history, etc. Every geographical region is documented, including the history of France, every period is covered from the 16th century to the present, and immediate history is accessible via grey literature.

One-day pre-academic-year course. Advance email registration required.
